The Great Depression and the recession are very similar in many ways. For one, during both times, people lost their money, jobs, and some even houses. It was very difficult to find a job, that paid well for both events. Although, during these times there were some contrasts also. The Great Depression was between the time period of 1929 - 1930, the recession was only for a couple of years, if that. During the Great Depression, factories shut down and stores would, too. During the Recession, stores would stay open, but not many people would shop because their lose of money and jobs. The Recession was a modern or recent version of The Great Depression, but The Great Depression had a whole lot of issues.

History
The people didn’t have money to buy materials for them. Today in America gas, and food prices are high. The Great Depression lasted for 10 years. The Recession lasted for one year. When the war started the Great Depression stop. Now today people can buy materials they what to use in America. Dorien
To me The Great Depression was where banks ran out of money, people didn't have money to build items, factories closed down ,and many people lost their jobs. I don't really think that its such a depression now where banks are losing money . Also like the factories are closing down. On the other hand though I do think many people are losing their jobs . A lot of this is happening around Maryland ,and a lot of it is around Washington DC . A comparison is that people with jobs helped people who didn't by feeding them . Like today they have Christmas in April. Jada D. Prater
The Great Depression is different from the Recession in many ways starting with the financial market. In the 1930s the government in the U.S.A reduced the credit to the banking system while in current time they raised it. In the 1930s the risk of banking failure was much greater while today we don't have as much of a chance. In the 1930s there were no global agencies such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the World Bank which know help countries in distress. In the 1930s the amount of people who had jobs differs alot from know. In the 1930s there was no unemployment insurance for the usa as there is know. Trevin
One similarity between the Recession and the Great Depression everyone thought that it was the President's fault.Back during the Great Depression they didn't have modern day items. They could sell cars for about $100 where as in today's society you could sell a car for around $20,000 and up.Another similarity is in both they have they both have the word great as in large as in plentiful. The difference is we have a higher amount of spending in America due to the different bank accounts and job governments.Another similarity is they both stemmed off of irresponsible decisions, bank funding, and federal excessive spending. I think with the Great Depression and now are very different. Like alot of people are laid off today because of either 1 they are to lazy and dont want to do the work. 2 the company does not have enough money to keep them. Or 3 they have been mistreationg eveyone including the customors. Also jobs are still not paying a lot so people either get their pay check late or do not get payed a lot sometimes. Plus people where and still are lie to their families so their families do not worry about the bills, the food, and everything else. Also, a lot of people were homeless and are. This still includes money. Mostly everything during the great depression involved money, jobs, lying, and or stealing. Most of the time people did and still are not eating every meal or are not getting enough food. Some kids also did not get education. Now a days the government makes the children go to school. Also, during The Great Depression people used the bible more went to church more and prayed more. We should take that as example because now a days people do not even think about those things. Jaimison
When people say that America is going through The Great Depression part 2, I always shake my head. One similarity of today and The Great Depression is that both contain of millions of people loosing their jobs. The government decreased the jobs of America in both times. Another similarity is that millions of people became homeless. They didn't/don't have any money and lose their homes. I could only think of 2 similarities but , I can think of a lot of differences. One difference is that when someone is depressed about their finances in today's world, they give up and sometimes go to drugs and alcohol. The contrasts in The Great Depression, people found hope in Jesus Christ. They didn't find another sources of "strength". Another difference is that in today's world, yes, a lot of people are struggling financially but, a lot of people are really doing well. You don't see malls shutting down. In contrast, in The Great Depression people wouldn't shop 'till they drop. Jasmine D.
The Recession and Great Depression are similar because the federal government did a lot of spending. Another similarity is that people were unemployed and it kept increasing. Both were huge crisis in America. A difference is that the Great Depression lasted from 1929-1939 and the Recess lasted from 2008 to the present date 2012. Another difference is that President Obama and President Busch were president during the Recession and President Franklin D. Roosevelt and President Hoover were president during the Great Depression. The Great Depression ended because men found job and America went to War. The Recession has not ended yet. Jeremiah
